The Deadline documentary

As fishing grounds become depleted trawlers now have to travel further and cast their nets deeper in the search to feed Human Unkind's appetite for fish.Shot aboard Greenpeace's ship, The Esperanza, and a fleet of rusting Chinese trawlers The Deadline conclusively shows how an international scam is stealing fish off the West coast of Africa. The film concludes with a dramatic High Seas chase and boarding of a refridgeration ship carrying pirated fish in official EU stamped boxes going to the Spanish port of Las Palmas. This is this same fish, stolen from the poorest countries in the world, that ends up in our supermarkets and ultimately onto our dinner plates. With 20% of all fish estimated to be caught by pirates this all adds to the threat facing the Ocean. The United Nations and leading scientists state fishing is at four times the sustainable rate and predict all fish stocks will be extinct by 2050. This is The Deadline - please come watch the film and be part of The Lifeline.
