RISING STARS BANDS CATEGORY
Our panel of judges, consisting of Si 'Chai' Wallah, captain of the Chai Wallah stage, Sunrise's own creative Director of musical niceness Jake Ewen and special guest Toby, from Sunrise headliner Banco De Gaia perused long and hard over all the entries, and ultimately honed in unanimously on this year's Rising Stars Winners.
We are delighted to announce that Philip Henry will be joining us this year on the Chai Wallah main stage!
Banco De Gaia on Philip:
"Philip Henry is an excellent player with a lovely, delicate feel. I could listen to him for hours and actually wouldn't mind collaborating with him on a track or two. He makes music that sounds natural and fluid, a great talent and for me the winner!"
A special mention from Banco on runners up Extra Love:
"Extra Love would be great fun to see live and a perfect festi band, they've clearly put some serious time into being tight and have a great vibe to them."
Si Chai
"Man that was a hard, an extremely close call between Extra Love and Phillip Henry. I guess the final swinger for me was when considering the rest of the programme Phillip’s unique style and individuality meant we could add something incomparable with anything else on the roster. Plus he fits the Sunrise crowds vibe perfectly. Congrats Phil. Hope to see more from Extra Love in the future and will defo be keeping my eyes and ears on them"

Well done Philip, sounds like a career option has just opened up to boot!

RISING STARS DJs CATEGORY
The panel for the Rising Stars DJ competition consisted of Liquid Ross from the Solar Dance stage, Jake sunrise director and special guest BEATNIK whose 'Function Creep' EP landed straight in at Number One spot on Beatport last week...
Some great mixes and original material here, but a winner there must be:
909 drum roll please.......
well, ok we actually found ourselves at a loss to decide here, not because we didn't agree, but because there were two artists we all felt were too fantastic.
In the end we decided to bend the rules and have chosen TWO winners for the DJ category this year! and these are:
Article and Llamaleaf
Beatnik on Llamaleaf:
Blimmin' Awesome! Really like this style of intricate techno into prog wobbliness... and the March Hare mix is phat! In fact includes some of my most favourite techno/prog-tech tracks in there! I'd guaranteed be grooving the whole way through this mix whether day-time or night-time! Good ear for a mix too even if not all of them are perfectly executed. But the tunes are all just rocking!
Beatnik on Article:
"So far checking Article's Pimms O'Clock mix... It'rs really very nice indeed. I absolutely love his mix particularly at 09:30 minutes. Loses pace abit (IMO) at 10:30 ish, but picks it back up nicely at 17:00... Although the equalising and volume levels throughout the mix are comparatively are abit off (The first half of the mix is considerably quieter than the second). But none the less the track by track transition levels are alright, and will sound wicked on a rig I'm sure.
Basically though I'm big fan of this mix."
