BABYHEAD - ORCHID-STAR - THE MIRETTES - BARAKA

THE SUMMITS - PLANETMAN & THE INTERNATIONALZ - EMERGENCE

The Orb

The Orb virtually invented the electronic genre known as ambient house, resurrecting slower, more soulful rhythms and providing a soundtrack for early-morning ravers once the clubs closed their doors. Now they invite you to join them to sit back, relax, and drift into 'The Dream'. It's been a busy year for The Orb, recording the album, playing Bestival, and seeing the seminal number 1 album, UFOrb getting a re-release. 'The Dream' sees Alex Paterson and Youth at their blessed, and melodious best. Their history speaks volumes, and the future is certainly bright…

The Beat

The Beat hailed from working class, industrial Birmingham, England. When The Beat rushed on to the music scene in 1979, it was a time of social, political and musical upheaval. Into this storm came The Beat, trying to calm the waters with their simple message of love and unity set to a great dance beat. The Beat were all about inclusion, rather than exclusion, and this showed in their personnel and their music influences. The six member band consisted of Dave Wakeling on vocals and guitar, Andy Cox on guitar, David Steele on bass, Everett Morton on drums, Ranking Roger on vocals and toasting, and foundational first wave ska legend Saxa on saxophone. The band crossed over fluidly between soul, reggae, pop and punk, and from these disparate pieces they created an infectious dance rhythm. Along with their contemporaries The Specials, The Selecter, and Madness, The Beat became an overnight sensation and one of the most popular and influential bands of the British ska movement.

Dub Pistols

Barry Ashworth and Jason O'Bryan AKA the Dub Pistols have spent the best part of a decade at the forefront of Beats culture. From their early singles for Concrete Records to their genre defying 'Six Million Ways To Live' long player, the Dub Pistols have always added a much needed Rock n Roll swagger to the UK's dance scene. Chewing up hip-hop, dub, techno, ska and punk and spitting them out in a renegade futuristic skank they have consistently defied categorisation and exceeded the highest of expectations.

System 7

Their style hovers between trance, techno and progressive house - with a unique spacey character that is deeply psychedelic without being typical psy-trance - and the added element of Steve's highly specialised techno guitar.

Oojami

Oojami is the brainchild of Necmi Cavli, originally a native of Bodrum - a popular Turkish holiday resort nestling on the banks of Aegean Sea. He moved to London in the nineties and started DJ'ing his own music in a small basement club in the Turkish quarter of North London. At the time nobody, including himself, predicted the exciting journey that he has was about to undertake. Over the last 6 years Oojami has produced 3 albums (internationally released on Miles Copland's (ex-manager of Sting and the Police) label), played hundreds of gigs in over 15 countries, including a tour of the US/Canada, and featured on more than 30 compilations around the world. Recently he's begun writing soundtracks for major Hollywood movies, and his music has been licensed to EMI Arabia - the biggest label in the Middle East.

Seize The Day

Festival favourites Seize The Day have been making beautiful music to inspire, enlighten and entertain for more than a decade. Headed by Theo Simon and Shannon Smy, the eight-piece group brings a radical new twist to popular traditions. Famously described as bold, beautiful frontline folk, their songs will make you laugh, cry or get active in changing the world for the better. A huge hit wherever they play, the band walk their talk and can often be found up trees, chained to gates or on protest marches as well as playing at festivals, town halls and benefit gigs across the UK.

Babyhead

Babyhead's unconventional approach tells you they aren't your average band. Like talented kids in a musical sweet shop they want to mix and match, sticking a dedicated horn section beside infectious heavy dub bass and ska across a hip-hop backbeat (and some funk-focused finesse). Then they'll spit out a layer of lyrical dexterity to improve the brew. Babyhead offer a unique sound with glittering showmanship and unadulterated energy. That's why this eight-piece band is rapidly generating a huge live following. 2007 saw babyhead release their debut album ‘Babyboom Town’ on Cookie Cutter Records with press by Trailer and distribution by Kudos. With a New single due for release in May and the second album in the pipe line 2008 is looking good for the babyhead boys!

The Summits

Last year, The Summits gave away a free CD of their music on the cover of Festival Eye. Suddenly, even hard core hippies were whistling the catchy tunes and tapping their toes to their infectious rock rhythms. After triumphant performances at Glastonbury. The Big Green Gathering and, of course, the Sunrise main stage, the Summits returned to their native Yorkshire to rest, recover and regroup. This year, they're back, ready to ascend to the next level on the mountain of rock and roll. Emergence

Emergence is an acoustic Indo-fusion band from the International Utopian Township of Auroville, South India. Emergence’s music is a blend of diverse cultural backgrounds and musical experience. Singing in English, Tamil and French, Emergence pushes the boundaries of their own cultural identities. The multi-layered harmonic textures of guitar and poetical lyricism played by Krishna blend with the sublime melodies of the carnatic idiom, played on the violin and sung in Tamil by Kirupa. This, backed by the expressive exploration of tallams, funk, and jazz rhythmical grooves of Lowell Harrison, and the exquisite bass playing of the renowned Mishko M’Ba, is the unique fusion of Emergence.
