Sunrise Announces its line up for 2010 Festival

Sunrise Celebration Festival, 3rd- 6th June, has just announced the first of its headliners for this year’s event, along with a host of new content. Headliners include Zion Train, Alice Russell, Banco De Gaia, Rory McLeod and comedian and social activist Mark Thomas. The festival is also expanding to include four new stages and a groundbreaking, edgy ‘Carnival of Life’ field.

The festival which is back for its fifth year will be returning to the beautiful organic fields of Bruton’s Gilcombe Farm where last year it enjoyed being one of the festival highlights of the summer. With beautiful sunshine, a well laid out site, and packed full of content this little festival once again placed itself firmly at the forefront of innovative, cultural and sustainable events.

“Last year Sunrise was a sell out success on the hottest day of the year and this year things are set to be even more exciting with the Introduction of a MASSIVE array of new content.  We are expanding Sunrise’s range to include lots more Circus and Comedy which will make for an incredibly awesome experience for Sunrisers.  It’s going to be a jaw dropping event this year which we are very excited about.” said Sophie Docker, Sunrise organiser.

The Carnival of Life field is the main exciting new edition to the festival. Bringing with it sounds and vibes from Brazil, with Samba dancing and Capoeira, it will be buzzing by day like the streets of Rio. At night the atmosphere darkens and Bristol’s ‘Invisible Circus’ take over with their ‘Carny Grande’. The eccentric genius’s who masterminded the recent Carny Ville shows at Bridewell Island, Bristol,  will be putting on some awesome nightly shows and creating a jaw dropping environment which will entertainment, amaze and send temperatures rising.


Also in the Carnival field will be the ‘Pussyfoot Cabaret Lounge’ which promises to have people purring with delight with its 1940’s style speakeasy vibes, and all manner of games from Bingo to bouncy castles, dress up madness and world dance vibes.


 Another new edition to this year’s festival is the ‘Spit and Sawdust’ outdoor stage, with folk, blue grass, hoedown and gypsy vibes it will be the central hub of the ‘Village Green’ area, which will also include Permaculture; Off Grid talks area; and the new Eco Build area.


“The Village Green is a Tribute to what Sunrise holds most dear- Community. Whether you live in a city or remote rural area you can be part of the rich vibrant community that surrounds you”.

The Sunrise Dance Stage has also been up for reinvention and will include some of the best established and underground talent in the dance scene, with appearances from the likes of Allaby, James Monro and Tim Healy. There will be awesome visuals, décor and installations, with a chill out space next door.

Last, but definitely not least, is the expanded kids area to include ‘little beings on the way’ to the ‘not so very little anymore’ with the introduction of the Teen Urban Revolve space, Forest School for 3-8 year olds and A Birth-art dome with conscious birthing workshops.
