Bring the Kids to Sunrise 20-10!
Bring the Kids to Sunrise 2010 - there’s so much for them to do!
Sunrise Celebration Festival, is back for its fifth year, and will be returning to the beautiful organic fields of Bruton’s Gilcombe Farm on the 3rd to the 6th of June 2010. Last year, the sunshine, a well laid out site, and stacks of quality content meant this little festival once again placed itself firmly at the forefront of innovative, cultural and sustainable events, establishing itself as one of the festival highlights of the summer.
The Sunrise team have spent many months arranging things so that the kids enjoy the festival as much as the adults – making the event one of the UK’s leading family friendly festivals. From ‘little beings on the way’ to the ‘not so very little anymore’ there is something for everyone. Along with the usual Kids Area Sunrise will be introducing a Birth-Art Dome with conscious birthing workshops, Forest School for 3-8 year olds and the Teen Urban Revolve space.
The Birth Art Dome is making its first appearance at Sunrise. Hosted by 'Da-a-Luz' (translated as 'bring to light'), this is a project set up by traditional midwife Vanessa Brooks which is dedicated to changing the face of childbirth through a project that informs, inspires and wow families through the journey of pregnancy, birth and parenthood. It's supported by Ina May Gaskin- midwife, writer and birth activist. This fabulous space holds the birth art gallery, info on pregnancy, birth and home schooling, workshops for pregnant women, dads and kids.
For the little ones, having been introduced at our smaller production ‘Off Grid’, will be the Forest School, where 3-8 year olds can learn all sorts of skills directly related to nature and bush craft. With den building, cooking on an open fire and creating pieces of art using natural materials there will be plenty to engage them physically and artistically.
Sunrise have come up with a brand new space especially for teenagers – those who are too old to play with the little ones and find what mum and dad are doing ‘boring’. To spark the interest of the hard to please the team have created the Teen Urban Revolve Space. “There will be a skate ramp, illustration classes, climbing wall and teen chill out space where they can escape from all the other dull people on site” said Sophie Docker, Sunrise spokesperson.
Also for the (big) kids will be guerrilla geography training by The Geography Collective who are a team of geography activists, explorers, academics, teachers and artists spending their time getting (young)people seeing the world in new ways. So far they have created over 500 missions that challenge children to produce performances for CCTV cameras, cross woods without touching the ground, investigate wildlife murders, start a blog on a town notice board, climb the height of a mountain using some stairs and see how people react to old(er) people hanging out on street corners in hoodies. Missions for Sunrise are being written especially and will include some bizarre props and challenges.
For all the adults who still want to be kids there is also plenty on offer. From an array of music, comedy, talks, grown up bouncy castles, hot tubs and great bars, having the kids’ happy leaves you free to get in your groove.
