Dear Won and All, we have a WiNNER!
This year's rising stars competition, in a short amount of time, attracted some great bands and was once again a very tight competition
Eight finalists went through to the final round (see below for details) but we had to pick one.
Our panel of judges, consisting of Si 'Chai' Wallah, captain of the Chai Wallah stage, Sunrise's own creative Director of musical niceness Jake Ewen and special guest Jay from Sunrise Headliners The Dub Pistols perused long and hard over all the entries, and, taking into account all the vote results, ultimately honed into agreement on this year's Rising Stars Winners.
We are delighted to announce that this year's winner is... reggae snare roll please......... BackBeatSoundSystem
who will be joining us this year on the Chai Wallah stage at Sunrise, Sat 17:30 May 30th
There is but one more WINNER though we've not mentioned yet. One lucky Voter has one a ticket to sunrise too. All voters' email addresses were put in a big red magic hippy hat, stirred rigorously and a small dove invited to pick one out at random... well, something like that anyway....
And the lucky voter is.....Sinead Chambers
congratulations Sinead!

Our 2009 finalists were...

Motorik Krautrock with a dash of electronica.

Described as 'Neo Victorian Forest Grunge' and a 'Gothic Folk Circus', 10 Ton Tongue offer festival music with balls. Although this description is possibly not the best politically-correct term, it's true. It is lyrically conscious music that bounces along boggling guitar mastery, set against the backdrop of a ripe and fertile rhythm section. It's lots of fun and will get everyone shouting and bounding about - all the serious nature of the world today wrapped in 10-Ton-Tongue in cheek revelry. Old and new vibes for ancient people.

Campbell-Ruddock are a latin guitar duo with a difference. Energy, passion and a lust for rhythm are high on the agenda. Able to engage and hypnotise any audience with intrinsic rhythms, melody and dynamic harmony’s. Together they have been described as “Unbelievable” and as a “Raw talent”. Campbell-Ruddock seem capable of anything - new, exciting and fresh. Drawing on music at large, bringing an eclectic and striking take on the term "new music".
After meeting through work the two decided to share a drink and play a few tunes, and over time developed in to a writing and performing act, that play their own brand of Latin fuelled soothing, moving songs, that produce great clarity and tone: an act not to be missed.
